MCA Meeting Recap: October 2021

The Central Park Farmer's Market, located at the 29th Avenue Town Center, has enjoyed a successful year, and the community’s Winter Welcome event is coming to the Founder’s Green area on November 19th, lighting up the Town Center with festive lights and more.

Ramping Up the 2022 Pool Season

Looking ahead to 2022, the MCA is ramping up programs at the pools, e.g., the "learn to swim" program is being augmented.

Several years ago, in 2017 and 2018, the pools were more accessible to low-income residents and seniors, and with the addition of more pools, the MCA is seeking ways to bring these groups back into the fold, with income qualified pool options now visible on the website.

Pool parties are also coming back, allowing adults to reserve the pools for after-hours events. Also, if adults wish to rent out the pools, e.g., form a group, they could effectively create an adults-only swim time after hours.

The pool staff is looking to recruit older people, who can work past labor day, to keep the pools open longer, extending the season later into the year. So, if you are retired, or simply have time, please contact Paula and her assistant, Rachel, if you are interested. Senior recruiting is on.

Months to Remember in 2022

  • February: Opportunities will be posted in February, linking to classes, so people can become certified earlier in the year.

  • April: Come April 1st, positions are open to the public.

  • May: Lifeguard recruitment starts at Spring Break, as water is needed to test and train. The pools generally look for 24 to 36 people to fill positions, with interviews starting May 1st.

Trash & Recycling Concerns

This past month I have fielded questions from multiple homeowners regarding trash and recycling pick-up. In a several cases, residents noted their trash and or recycling has not been picked up as the cans or toters, as they are often called, were not placed at the alley’s edge. In these cases, the owners in question received notices from the City of Denver detailing placement instructions, and asked if there was anything the MCA could do to negotiate on their behalf, citing small spaces behind their homes. As I stated to the owners in question, this is outside the MCA’s jurisdiction, as trash and recycling services are conducted entirely through the City of Denver. That said, I feel it important to note a couple points: (1) The City of Denver will provide extra trash and or recycling containers free of charge if formally requested to do so, e.g., I have two large recycling containers, which I typically fill every two weeks; (2) The City of Denver can be reached online at Denver 311, by dialing “311” from a 720 area code, or by dialing (720) 913-1311.

2021 -2022 MCA Elections

On December 15, 2021 the MCA will hold elections for all 11 districts in the community, and if you live in Central Park’s North End Neighborhood, District 11, I would greatly appreciate your vote as I run for a second term. Below is my official reelection statement, which will be published in the weeks leading up to the election. So, thank you for reading, and thank you for your consideration, it has been an honor to serve the wonderful community we call home.

“As the incumbent Community Delegate for District 11, the North End, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve as “your voice for our community,” and as I look back on the past year I am very proud of what we have achieved collectively. I am also excited by the prospect of working together again in 2022, for there is much work still to be done, and with years of experience serving on multiple HOA boards, I am confident that we will continue to make Central Park a wonderful place to live for all people.

As one who has lived and worked in the community for 12 years across three districts, I am deeply tied to the area, and committed to its success. For example, when neighbors cited trash blowing out of builder dumpsters, I organized two neighborhood clean-ups, which thanks to multiple volunteers, improved the local aesthetic, and when neighbors noted street racing along 56th Avenue, I worked closely with local law enforcement officers to address the issue, resulting in a decline of illegal activity.

While I am running as an individual for re-election, I wish to emphasize that my role is a collaborative one, and that in partnership with my fellow delegates and board members I have successfully reduced pool fees for income-qualified residents, diversified pool hiring, and am actively working to expand pool hours, making facilities available later into the year.

If you have visited the website I designed and built to share community news and updates, NorthEndNeighbors.com, and or signed up for my monthly newsletter, you know that I report back to you, the community, what transpires at MCA meetings, making the governing process accessible and transparent for everyone.

So, thank you for supporting me in my initial run for elected office, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to represent you, answering your questions and addressing your concerns in a timely and professional manner. Thank you also for considering me for a second term, for together there is much we can achieve, from improving community parks to augmenting recreational offerings, and more.”
